Ongoing Counter Reformation

What is the Word of God? Where is the Word of God? Does anyone agree on what is the Word of God? Can anybody hold up a Bible and say with absolute authority and conviction that the Book they hold in their hand is the Inspired Word of God? Are all the Bible versions really saying the same things? How many versions of the Bible are in your church? Am I the only one that thinks all this is confusing?

King James Bible 2

Why is virtually any new Bible version looked upon as a worthy scholarly work and yet the King James Bible is relegated to the roll of antiquated inferiority? I’ve been around long enough to see many of the new translations roll off the production lines. My personal experience started with the Revised Standard Version at age 12. I only read a few verses in Matthew and put it down. I never touched a Bible again until I was saved at age 19 in 1973 (New Scofield Bible).

And All Men Shall Fear

Psalm 64:9 - And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. The context of this psalm has the emphasis directed towards those that don’t know and love God. David had observed, in his interaction with those around him, that there were those that didn’t fear God. The actions of their lives were an affront to the people of God and even to God himself. So, when I thought about writing about this verse I was going to focus on the unsaved that don’t fear God.

Learning About Grace … Still

When I got saved (born-again, washed in the blood of Yeshua) one of the first verses I came to know was Ephesians 2:8-9. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Salvation is not granted on the basis of one’s efforts to appease God. Religious activity is never sufficient to gain the approval of God. This approval, granted to an individual, is only by grace through faith in Yeshua who alone appeased the righteousness of God on our behalf.
